Mary M. Leichliter and First Floor Mediation welcome you. "First Floor" is a way of symbolizing the ability of mediation as an effective process for resolving lawsuits and other disputes quickly and affordably. First Floor Mediation works to help people communicate and problem-solve to move beyond conflict to peace of mind.

Mary mediates civil cases, including discrimination, sexual harassment, and other work place disputes, as well as family disputes including divorce, guardianship and probate matters. In addition to her private practice, Mary mediates regularly as a mediator on mediation panels such as the Civil and Probate panels of the San Mateo Superior Court, the Equal Opportunity Commission, the Beacon Group panel for federal employees, and the San Francisco Superior Court. She mediates non-catastrophic personal injury and premises liability claims between claimants and a large U.S. corporation. Mary volunteers as a community mediator for SEEDS Conflict Resolution Center and the San Francisco Police Department Office of Citizens Complaints, and is President of the Northern California Chapter of Mediators Beyond Borders.

Mary has mediated hundreds of disputes, and offers many years of diverse experience as a lawyer, having worked with private and public employers and employees, public entities and local governments, unions and businesses.  Colleagues and clients value her empathetic listening, excellent communication, creative problem-solving, warmth and humor. Mary is well-trained and skilled in handling high-conflict disputes which may bring forth difficult emotional issues and she welcomes the opportunity to work with you on these cases.
